First Quarter Objectives
Science
* Understand the positions and motions of objects and organisms observed in the environment
* Compare the relative position of various objects observed in the classroom and outside using positional words such as: in front, behind, between, on top, under, above, below, and beside.
* Give examples of different ways objects and organisms move ( to include falling to the ground when dropped).... Straight, zig zag, round and round, back and forth, fast and
slow.
Social Studies
* Understand the roles of a citizen
* Exemplify positive relationships through fair play and friendship.
* Explain why citizens obey rules in the classroom, school, home, and neighborhood.
Math
* Rote count to 20 by ones
* Rote count from any given number to 20 by ones
* Write numbers from 0 to 20. Represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0-20, with 0 representing a count of no objects.
* Understand the relationship between numbers and quantities. Countsone object in standard order pairing each object with only number
* Count to answer “how many” (up to 20 objects in different arrangements – line, array, circle, scattered)
* Compare two numbers, within 10, presented as written numerals.
* Describe measurable attributes of objects. Describe several different measurable attributes of a single object.
* Directly compare two objects with measurable attributes in common to see which has more or less of an attribute without counting and describe the difference.
* Classify objects into given categories, count the number of objects in each category, and sort the categories by count.
* Recognize and combine groups with totals to 5 (subitize)
Language Arts
* Demonstrate command of the conventions of Standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking: demonstrate proficiency within the K-1 conventions continuum.
* Demonstrate command of the conventions of Standard English capitalization, punctuation and spelling when writing: demonstrate proficiency within the K-1 conventions continuum.
* Sort common objects into categories to gain a sense of the concepts the categories represent.
* With guidance and support from adults, explore nuances in word meanings. Distinguish shades of meaning among verbs describing the same general action by acting out the meanings. (jump, hop, crawl, leap)
* Demonstrate understanding of the organization of print and basic features of print: follow words from left to right, top to bottom, and page by page
* Recognize that spoken words are represented in written language by specific sequence of letters.
* Name all letters (capital & lowercase)
* Recognize and produce rhyming words.
* Identify front cover back cover & title page
* Actively engage in group reading activities with purpose and understanding
